9 Ways To Keep Morning Sickness At Bay

When you’re in the first trimester of pregnancy, one of the worst symptoms can be morning sickness.  Morning sickness definitely doesn’t only happen in the morning.  With my daughter it seemed like I would get nauseous as soon as I was getting ready for bed.  I also seemed to just be nauseous at random times throughout the day.  With my son it was mostly in the morning or if I hadn’t eaten in a while.  These are some remedies that can help you get through this difficult stage of pregnancy.

morning sickness remedies

Preggie Pop Drops

These are my favorite remedies.  They’re basically like eating candy, but they help! When I was pregnant with my son and dealing with morning sickness they were the best thing offered to me.

Ginger Chews

I love the mango flavored ones, however they were a bit too chewy for me and hurt my jaw (I have TMJ). The ginger flavor was a bit too strong in the ones that don’t have an additional flavor to balance it.  If you love chewy candy this may be a great idea for you.  They have additional flavors as well.

Papaya Enzymes

These are quite odd.  They were first recommended to me when I was pregnant with my daughter and the morning sickness wouldn’t go away, my midwife suggested it because it has less sugar than the preggie pops and the ginger chews.

Licorice Root

Licorice can help with morning sickness as well but it has to be the real black kind.  Alternatively you can take a capsule or chewable pill to get the same effect.

B6

I haven’t personally tried taking b6 for morning sickness, but there are additional benefits to taking it as a usual supplement.  My cousin swears by it.

Crackers

Munching on crackers between meals can greatly help keep morning sickness at bay.  Make it into a complete snack with some protein like cheese or nut butter.

Peanut Butter

Creamy or chunky, many women swear by taking a huge spoonful of peanut butter as soon as you wake up.  We went to Japan while I was pregnant with my son and I brought several individual packets with us and ate them every morning with some crackers.

Ginger Beer

If your stomach is getting upset with everything, ginger beer can help you out!  There are lots of options for ginger beer but the stronger it is the more likely it is to help you out. Kroger has a really good ginger beer.

Acupressure Bands

I have yet to try an acupressure band for morning sickness.  It’s supposed to work.  These can also be called sea bands as they also work for sea sickness.  You can get some really cheap ones, or really expensive ones.

Remember morning sickness will pass eventually.  For my son the morning sickness lasted until about 13 or 14 weeks.  For my daughter it lasted until I was 23 weeks along.  If you are unable to keep anything down make sure you go see your doctor as you may have something called hyperemesis gravidarum, an extreme form of morning sickness.
