Toys My 4 Kids Actually Care About

We travel often. Twice this year for a month each time. We Airbnb out our house while we are gone so I have to put all the kids toys away until we return. When we get back it gives me a chance to evaluate which toys my kids love and which ones are unnecessary. We don’t have too many toys, I don’t like to have tons of annoying toys out all the time. I like to have toys my kids actually like and want to play with. Here are the toys my kids missed when we got back.

toys my kids care about

Play food/tea set

The tea set was the first thing my kids asked for. My girls love to pretend to have tea. My son also occasionally joins into the tea parties.

Silks

My kids love to use play silks as bonnets, capes, dresses, table cloths, blankets, and more. When they’re out, my kids will use them every day.

Duplo/ Lego

My kids love to build with lego bricks. They can spend lots of time making many creations. This is one thing they asked for almost right away.

Pull duck

We have a mama duck, two babies, and 3 eggs that go on a pull train and my kids love it and ask for it. They use it with the play food, as a pet duck, or on its own.

Barbies

My girls love Barbie’s. I have them separated into sets and they have asked for specific Barbie’s and sets. They didn’t ask for the Barbie house I have, but they did ask for the car.

Puzzles

My almost 3 year old is really into puzzles right now. She has asked for puzzles almost every day since we returned.

Hot Wheels

My youngest is actually the biggest fan of these and she couldn’t actually ask for them, but when they were out she was happily rolling them around and carrying them around.

Mini Barbie’s

My girls love these. We brought them to Mexico with us and got a new one while we were there. These are basically 90’s McDonald’s toys, and they were mine when I was little, so they have had some good use. My girls like to pair them with some shopkins food and play for hours with them.

Rugrats

My second daughter loves these Rugrats dolls, another 90’s toy. They used to be my cousins toys, but she gifted them to me and I’m so glad, because they are often played with.

Things they didn’t ask for

Magnatiles

Surprisingly they didn’t ask to play with our magnatiles at all. I definitely will keep them and get them out someday, but I’m shocked that they weren’t super interested.

Half circle steppers

These are very versatile to their play including part of obstacle courses, cake, dragon eggs, or a pregnant belly. But since we got back from our trip, my kids haven’t thought of using them in their play. So I’ve kept them away for now. I probably will get them out one of these days and it will feel like Christmas again.

So overall my kids like all the toys we have. We could probably still reduce the quantity, but for now toys haven’t been overtaking our lives and the kids enjoy them.
