What You Need:

  • Baked Goods (see ideas below)
  • Plastic Wrap
  • Sealed Containers
  • Filler (see ideas below)
  • Shipping box

First ensure the cookies are completely cool, you don’t want the cookies to crumble or get smushed before they get to your loved ones.

Next try to wrap them in some sort of plastic wrap, you can use press and seal, but the kind that clings will be best. You can choose to wrap each individual cookie or wrap a stack of them.

Containers:

After they are wrapped put them into the container of your choosing. Here are some container ideas:

  • In coffee tins with wax paper between layers & plastic wrap under the lid
  • In a Pringle’s tin- If you choose this container make sure that your cookies will fit into the tube
  • In a cool whip container
  • In Tupperware from the dollar store

Bar Cookies/ Brownies: Make cookie bars or brownies in a foil pan and do not cut. Add marshmallows or bread. Wrap with plastic wrap and then tin foil. Vacuum seal or zip in a Ziplock with all the air out. Follow the rest of the instructions.

Fillers:

After the cookies have been stored in a container, choose a filler to fill the shipping box to the top. Make sure the filler packs the cookie container in tight. Here are some edible filler ideas:

  • Nerds
  • Hot chocolate packs
  • Tootsie rolls
  • Use Rice Krispie treats
  • Use small bags of popcorn
  • Do Not use mints (or it will taste like mint)

You can also use non-edible fillers such as packing peanuts or bubble wrap, but your loved one won’t have an extra treat.

Last, wrap it all up and ship it off to your loved one! Make sure that you write legibly so your goodies don’t get lost on the way.

General Tips:

  • Nothing too moist
  • Nothing filled
  • Nothing with fruit (unless dried)
  • Avoid chocolate in the summer/ warm months or just in general
  • Try to vacuum seal the cookies instead of plastic wrap
  • Try freezing cooked cookies before sealing so the sealing doesn’t break them
  • Try adding a mold/microbial preservative to the baked good
  • For frosted cookies, put a cup cake liner between cookies
  • Add a piece of bread in the bag to keep cookies fresh (it may leave a yeast flavor)
  • Add mini marshmallows in a Ziplock bag to keep cookies fresh
