For the first almost 2 years of my marriage we lived without a microwave in a “half dry” cabin. We also had my son for the last 6 of these months. So this is how to live without a microwave.

Some liquids that need to be reheated include soups, tea, and coffee.

  • Heat them in a sauce pan on the stove
  • Or try them iced/chilled!

How To Reheat Leftovers Without A Microwave

Leftovers that are reheated without a microwave taste better. Maybe that’s an opinion, but try it out for yourself!

  • Use a Pyrex dish and reheat in a toaster oven, or an oven for dishes that usually are baked, vegetables, and tortilla chips.
  • Pizza is the best in a toaster oven!
  • Use a skillet to reheat stir fries, fried rice, sauces, or pasta.

How To Melt Butter Without A Microwave

Butter can be melted in a few different ways without a microwave.

  • Put in a bag and submerge in hot water
  • Or use a sauce pan to melt it on the stove

How To Quickly Defrost Meat Without A Microwave

The best way to defrost meat is to set it in the fridge overnight, but if that isn’t an option this method works great.

  • Run the frozen meat under warm water or put in a bag and submerge in warm water

How To Make Popcorn Without A Microwave

Popcorn is easy to make without a microwave, but it does take a bit more finesse.

  • Pour oil and 5 popcorn kernels into a sauce pan and set on the stove on medium heat
  • Cover the pan and wait for the kernels to start popping
  • Add the other kernels, replace the lid, and give the pan a good shake
  • Gently shake the pan as the popcorn continues to pop
  • When the popping slows to every few seconds remove from heat and pour into a bowl

General Tips for Life Without A Microwave

  • When using a stove top, heat over low or medium heat
  • When using a stove top, add liquid to help such as water, broth, or milk
  • When using a stove top, stir the food so it doesn’t stick
  • When using an oven, cover with tinfoil
