How To Have A Functional Home And Airbnb

For a couple of years we have been renting our own living space on Airbnb while we go on trips. This means that we need our home to be ready to go quickly when we are headed out. This becomes quite complicated with kids who are still taking naps, or even with kids in general. So the best way for us to accomplish this is to keep our home close to what it is like when we leave it for our guests. This is pretty complicated when you have 4 kids under 6.

Here are some tips on how to make your home functional for your family and a great Airbnb experience.

Choose colors you enjoy

  • If you hate the color scheme your space isn’t functional for you.
  • Blue is the most popular color on Airbnb, but if that’s not a color you like, don’t use it.

Find products you love

  • Choose big ticket items you enjoy and that will last you years.
  • If you have a favorite appliance, mention it in your house manual. Be sure to include instructions.

Place items in easy access areas

  • Plates near dining area, cups near water or kettle, cloths near high spill areas, baking supplies near a large counter space.
  • Make sure that the locations for items make since for both you and your guests.

Purchase easy to clean products

  • Products that have less surfaces and no difficult edges or crannies will be easier to clean all the time.
  • Buttons on couches and chairs are not good for easy cleaning.
  • Appliances and tools with groves are hard to clean as well.

Less is more

  • Having less items out will make it easier to clean, not just for yourself, but between guests.
  • Less items also is less stressful for you and gives you space for items you truly love.

Regularly clean

  • Not just before a guest comes in. Take the time to clean every week so that when a guest checks in you will have less cleaning to do.
  • Regular cleaning makes sure that no areas get forgotten.

Have a cleaning check list

  • Make a list of everything that needs to be cleaned every time a guest checks in or out. Use the list to clean your house. The more you practice the quicker you will be.
  • Additionally having a staging list can help you remember keepsakes or personal items that you need to remember to remove when you have guests.
