How To Dress Your Kids At 30 Degrees Fahrenheit

As I write this it’s currently October 2nd and where I live, it snowed this morning. We went out to play at 34 degrees. When you live in Alaska, kids still go outside to play down to -20 degrees Fahrenheit. So of course we still go outside when it’s above freezing. This is the exact clothes my kids wore to play outside at 34.

Time to get them dressed: 8 minutes

Time stayed outside: 30 minutes

4 & 2.5 Year Olds-

Jacket – my son wore a fleece jacket, my daughter had a waterproof north face jacket on.

Gloves– head brand from Costco- I love these because they unzip all the way up to the thumb so you can actually help your toddler get their thumb into place.

Hat– just basic winter hats.

Boots– both kids wore bogs.

Rain suit– because it was wet, I put my kids in rain suits for an extra layer and to keep them dry. My daughter word a hapiu one and my son wore a tuffo brand one. When I purchase another it will be another hapiu. I love the Velcro on the cuffs and it’s a thicker material.

Both kids were wearing sweat pants and long sleeved shirts and normal socks.

10 Month Old-

Hat– just a basic winter hat.

Boots– Alaskan mukluks.

Jacket– a fuzzy zip up.

Mittens– I actually forgot to bring her mittens this time, but I definitely will bring them next time. I was holding her hands for the last 10 minutes to keep them warm.

Baby carrier– I held her on me with my Beco carrier which helped keep her warm.

She was wearing a long sleeved shirt, thin cotton pants and normal socks.

What I Wore

Coat– I wore a north face puffy jacket.

Boots– I wore escalate Baffin boots.

Hat– just an average winter hat.

Gloves – I forgot my gloves this time so my fingers were getting cold so when my daughter stopped wearing her hat I used it like a muffler for my hands.

I had on jeans and a long sleeved shirt with normal socks.

Did We Keep Warm?

My son stayed warm except for his fingers because his gloves kept falling off.

My daughter who always runs hot stayed warm even though her hat came off after 10 minutes of play.

My littlest one had cold legs so I need to start putting her in some sort of extra pant layer. She also had cold hands because I forgot her mittens, but I did my best to keep her hands warm by tucking them into the baby carrier and holding them in my hands.

My hands were cold due to my missing mittens.

This apparel is great for weather between 30-40 degrees outside.

I’m a born and raised Alaskan and stay-at-home mom of two.  I love baking, scrapbooking, and working on money saving strategies.
