Making your own spices is typically much cheaper than buying store bought ones. We love to make curry so we use a decent amount of curry powder.
Ingredients
Curry powder only contains a few ingredients but it has so much flavor. Cumin, cardamom, coriander, turmeric, dry mustard, garlic powder, and cayenne are all you need to make this delicious spice mix.
Cumin– Cumin is a popular spice in many different cultures. It adds a warming flavor
Cardamom– Cardamom is great in many sweet dishes, but it adds a more citrusy flavor
Coriander– This spice is quite fresh tasting and lemony
Turmeric– Turmeric gives this powder its yellow color
Garlic powder– Garlic is a classic spice that adds depth. You can definitely make this powder without garlic, but it won’t be as tasty
Dry mustard– Mustard when it’s dried, is a much more subtle flavor. This adds more yellow to the powder
Cayenne– Cayenne is for a tiny kick. It won’t make this powder too spicy, but if you cannot handle any spice you can omit this
Directions
Mix all ingredients together. I like to use the container I store the powder in to mix all the ingredients so I have less dishes to wash
Store in an airtight container like this one
